What is RunP53?

Who:
My name is Mark Robbins and my dear friend Bryce Thompson is currently battling Leukemia. Like many of you, I FREAKING love Bryce. I feel that I need to help and RunP53 is my way of doing so.

What/Why:
I will be attempting to run 53 miles for several reasons. Reason #1 is to show Bryce that there are others fighting and enduring with him. Reason # 2 is to raise awareness of Li-Fraumeni syndrome. Li-Fraumeni syndrome is a rare disorder that greatly increases the risk of developing several types of cancer, particularly in children and young adults. More than half of all families with Li-Fraumeni syndrome have inherited mutations in the TP53 gene. TP53 is a tumor suppressor gene, which means that it normally helps control the growth and division of cells. Mutations in this gene can allow cells to divide in an uncontrolled way and form tumors. Other genetic and environmental factors are also likely to affect the risk of cancer in people with TP53 mutations. Thus the 53 miles Reason # 3 is to help raise money for Bryce and Jenni. They are not likely to ask for help but I know that any amount of money can and will help.

When:
August 17th 2013 4:00 AM (I am hoping to finish in 15ish hours)

Where:
I will be starting at Guardsmans Pass near Brighton ski resort. I will run up to Scott's Pass, down the Great Western trail to Little Water ending the first stretch at the top of Millcreek Canyon. I will run down Millcreek Canyon road to Elbow Fork and up to Lambs Canyon Pass. I will then drop into Lambs and run down the road under I-80 and start my way toward Big Mountain Pass. After Roger's saddle I will make my way up the grassy trail to Parley's Summit. At the radio towers I will run the trail eventually linking back into the Great Western trail. I will follow the Great Western all the way beyond Swallow Rocks and joining into the City Creek trail. I will then run down City Creek eventually linking into the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. I will work South toward Dry Creek. I will descend down Dry Creek and finish at Huntsman Cancer Institute.

How:
I am still not really sure. :)
Anytime that it gets super tough my thoughts will turn to Bryce and I'll just keep going.

How can you help?
You can donate in a couple of different ways. 1- Per mile completed or 2- One lump sum for completion. Or if you just want to help out that is cool too.

If you would like to run a portion with me that will be rad as well. I am nice and slow and the pace for a 53 miler is somewhere between turtle and snail. I will have crew support at Millcreek, Lambs, Big Mountain and City Creek.
